The WeatherDrive is the only Merlin roller opener rated for partially exposed installation. Its IP34 housing is protected against solid objects larger than 2.5mm and against water sprayed from any angle up to 60 degrees from vertical, which makes it the right choice for carports, perimeter doors, sheds and any opening without a fully enclosed garage above it.
That rating is higher than the other main weatherproof opener on the market. The ATA GDO8 is IP24, which covers water spray but offers less protection against solid ingress.
A slimline housing lets it fit openings where a standard opener will not, and LED lighting comes as standard.
For a fully enclosed garage where weather is not a factor, the MR655MYQ SilentDrive Essential covers similar door sizes at a lower price. The WeatherDrive earns its premium only where the opener is exposed.

Merlin MR555MYQ WeatherDrive Features
First introduced in 2009 the Merlin Roller series, also known as the “MR” series of roller door openers, are one of the most commonly seen roller door openers in Australia. The MR555MYQ WeatherDrive is the first water resistant model in that range, released for carports, perimeter doors and other exposed installation locations.
The IP34 housing is the difference. It is protected against solid objects larger than 2.5mm and against water sprayed at any angle up to 60 degrees from vertical, with the terminal block sealed behind its own rubber grommet. Compared to the other main weatherproof opener on the market, the ATA GDO8 at IP24, the WeatherDrive carries the higher protection rating.
Two travel speeds give better control on different door sizes, and automatic force sensing monitors and adjusts the force needed with every operation. The safety reverse system stops and reverses the door if it meets an obstruction on the way down, and a manual release lets you open the door by hand during a power outage. Auto Close is available once Safety IR Beams are fitted.
The included E970M remote controls use Security+ 2.0 rolling code encryption, generating a new code each time a button is pressed. By transmitting across 433.30, 433.92 and 434.54 MHz they select the strongest frequency each time, which virtually eliminates interference and stops code grabbing devices replaying the signal to open your door.
The opener leaves the factory configured for right hand installation and can be changed to left hand during setup. It mounts to the door axle using the supplied U clamp assembly.
